The more moderately priced Anantara and Avani properties aren't pretending to be something they're not.

In my opinion it has been a very smart decision for Minor to take some of its former Marriott hotels as well as FS/Regent BKK into their own brand portfolios. They've proved they can do it better, without being encumbered by outside management and paying the high fees that entails.
Not questioning your judgement, but we were very disappointed with our Anantara Krabi Si Kao stay. We had issues with the power in one of the two bedrooms in our two bedroom suite, and it took almost a full day for them to fix. Food was subpar and only one restaurant open during our stay. We ended up checking out 2 days early, and headed off to Phuket.

Service recovery was, however, excellent. Comped 2 of the four nights as well as a decent portion of our food/bev.

Was my first Anantara stay, and it didn't warm me to the brand - but I'd be willing to give some of their other properties a go, based on reviews in this forum.
