After devising several different runs of 5 or 6 segments but before booking anything, I decided to change my plan for jump-starting my 2018 segment count. Now I'm going to make 2 round trips per week rather than one during the sale weeks. With the new standby policy I can fly whenever I'm ready, so this should be simple. It's more total travel time but I feel like I'm getting some value from the extra trips.
As a side benefit, Southwest's auto-cancellation 'bot won't cause havoc with my bookings.
