It's more likely to be due to the tickets not being issued yet. Agents often do this unfortunately, to improve their cash flow.
Once your tickets are issued then you should be able to pay to select your seats online before checkin, or for free 24 hours before. Without status your options will unfortunately be quite limited, but FLY will try to seat you together.
Thanks , i'll keep checking on reg basis and see what happens , am loathe to pay the high select-your-own-seating prices BA charge however i'd rather ensure my OH and i are sat together for this length of flight
