I wasn't aware of that. I have used East Asian budget airlines several times and have had no problem using just my first given name and surname. Some countries have different naming conventions where given names and middle names mean a different thing. UK passports just have categories for given name(s) and surname. But in the Philippines for example, they have a third category of 'middle name' which is not the same as a second given name. Different naming conventions in different countries can sometimes cause confusion.
