I think many here are letting the crappiness of CPs in the US misrepresent the chain as a whole. The US is full of crapoy hotels of many brands (including HI, Sheraton, Hilton etc.).

What about the CP Brussels? CP London City, CP Liverpool, CP Brugges, CP Larnsca, CP Manchester, CP Copenhagen, CP LHR (if you consider the property fundamentals rather than crappy elite treatment) etc. Etc.

Even the CP LAX is a pretty decent property. The issues aren't necessarily with CP they are down to IHG being a generally downmarket chain that has failed to compel their franchisees to adopt and maintain decent standards. Despite this many properties have far higher standards thankfully than IHG requires of them.
