You might have more options to get back to MDW if IRROPS do occur, simply with the # of nonstop flights between BWI-MDW and the possibilities of connecting through a city that has flights to both BWI and MDW.

Obviously you can't plan for IRROPS though, so try PHL next time and see which is best for you.
