Has anyone here ever attempted to cancel a trip for severe weather?
Here is the relevant section/language from the Chase Trip Insurance Policy:
• Severe weather, which prevents a reasonable and prudent person from beginning or continuing on a Covered Trip"
Sounds pretty subjective - what would a reasonable person do? Reasonable minds could differ right?
I am thinking of calling Chase and discussing this with them. Not saying we are ready to cancel yet, but trying to determine how much say (if any) I have in the decision as to whether this would be a covered event.
Before doing so, I thought I'd reach out for some wisdom from the folks on this forum who may have crossed this bridge before.
Anyone with perspective/advice?
Thanks in advance for your time,
Mike
Update. I called and spoke with a CSR travel insurance rep. As I expected, they can't make a decision or give you great guidance over the phone. You need to submit a claim to underwriting. It seems short of Bermuda being in an actual "hurricane warning", the decision by underwriting will be quite subjective and difficult to predict in advance. Would be good to know what there decision would be as part of making our own decision as to whether or not to go. In other words, if I knew they'd reimburse me for all non-refundable amounts we would probably cancel the trip based upon what we know now (even though Bermuda is not in a hurricane warning or watch - only listed as "possible" for a hurricane strike).
So we will wait and watch the progress of the storm and make a decision late Saturday (we are flying out Sunday morning).
