As this is in the UA forum I presume the OP wants to do this to get into a domestic UA Club. Again, not worth the bother.
The UA clubs in NRT and HKG are pretty damn nice though. Of course, I just bought a one-time pass off eBay, but still.
Or, you miss your connection/flight is delayed. I did this at Charlotte once. My ORD-CLT flight was delayed an hour due to weather making me miss my CLT-ATL flight. Next available flight was 6 hours later, so I bought a pass to the club at CLT and just hung out. Luckily, it was a work trip, so I just expended it.
