If they were coming from their home location, I doubt one would get jet lag coming from Surrey, England.
It isn't clear from the OP that the property was aware it was a special occasion.
If this was supposedly such a special occasion, I certainly wouldn't have waited to post a complaint on FT after the fact.
If you read the reviews, you should realize certain parts of the hotel are past their prime, but many still seem to enjoy the property.
