bad first experience of Sri Lankan
Booked O/W CGK-CMB-DXB today , the flights where on time , efficient but the service and food left a lot to be desired....

The meal service was quite rushed , with everything served on one tray and they seemed in a rush to get it over and done with , on completion they cleared the tray away and came round with coffee/tea , i asked what happened to the desert , i was told "desert was only on request as they only cater for half the cabin" i asked but surely you have an alternative such as cheese etc , so in theory would have catered for all , the answer was no , we only carry one desert.
I mentioned i found this to be a strange policy , especially if the cabin was paid J , I could understand if free upgrade not catered for , the cabin crew reply "are you having a bad day " i replied in the negative actually I'm having a good day , i am just questioning the policy. I found it strange for crew to question a customer when asking a perfectly valid question.
By also keeping the desert on request , there is a risk of further waste , if no one asked ?

Meal served efficiently after take off , i was about to tuck into the salad , when two ant sized insects appeared , i returned the meal to the cabin and politely refused a replacement
In fairness to the crew they did offer a bottle of champagne ,but i couldn't take as i was in transit at Dubai.
To be honest value for money is no doubt good on UL , but would i recommend the food , sadly not , i think if i flew again with them i would take something
