I have a mass of mixed feelings that swirl around in my head when I think of the Crowne Plaza SF Airport. It’s an old hotel that looks like it was built in the 70’s and hasn’t been renovated since. It’s actually acceptably clean considering the age but the furniture… where can you even still find that style in this day and age? In any case…

I did like the property though, even though it really needs some love. The cafe they had on property was simply amazing, and the breakfast... possibly the best hotel breakfast I have ever had. I've been to places with spreads 3 times larger and/or "fancier" but everything was just so GOOD at the cafe... and it was a free Platinum benefit.
I stayed at that property before it was a CP. In 2000-2001-ish, it was a Park Plaza. I passed through SFO recently and stayed there again and did not notice anything different, apart from the color schemes.

I always look forward to staying in even the most basic HI Express or equivalent in Europe. The breakfast is always miles ahead of the processed garbage served on styrofoam that I'm used to in the U.S. Most recent experience was in Düsseldorf - forgettable looking property on the outside, but clean and modern rooms, nice bar in lobby, and a breakfast spread that would shame pretty much any full-service hotel breakfast in the U.S.
