Having done what I described above (i.e. access my M+B reservation through the Hertz site after logging in as a Hertz Gold member) I found out yesterday at FCO that, indeed, I got the appropriate "Gold treatment": only showed my driver's licence, signed the form and off I was in less than 3 minutes!
