Is this a one off or a new procedure?
If it is now procedure, there is potential for trouble here...
It's been over a decade since I last wore a hat (baseball cap) onto a flight. I have never been asked to remove my hat when wearing one. However, even up to most recently, I have noticed that some GAs rigorously eyeing and checking and double checking the ID and glancing hard at me.

IMHO, I would chalk this up as a one-off GA. Who knows, maybe they were a new hire and just being extra buttocks?
