Thanks both - the Ren is less than 1/2 the price of JW on my dates, so that got my bookings. Was concerned about street noise polluting the bedroom as I don’t cope well with that! May just try it...
Just be sure to get a deluxe or higher room in the West Wing, where renovations are almost done. The East Wing rooms aren't renovated and are a little more tired.
The Renaissance is a weird hotel. It's basically two separate hotels that were brought together a few years ago under the Renaissance brand. The different decor, in particular, is very notable. Apparently, the West Wing was always 5-star while the East Wing was 3 1/2 or 4 stars. The experience is supposed to be the same now, but I don't necessarily think that is the case.
If the Renaissance has weaknesses it's housekeeping, which is inconsistent, according to multiple reports as well as my own first-hand experience. Some days I received face cloths. Other days I didn't. Some days I had shampoo, other days I didn't. Some days coffee was replaced. Other days it wasn't. There is no evening turndown, despite the Renaissance marketing itself as a 5-star hotel. Also, the renovated rooms have issues with the tile flooring, which isn't holding up well. They already need regrouting. English fluency of staff was also an issue.
