I would like to resurrect the thread to find out whether anyone who is Permanent Resident in Canada and is from a visa-exempt country has managed to check in online when flying into Canada.
In 2017 for me it has been an impossibility - no airline I have flown has allowed me to check in online. And this means that something that should take 30 seconds at the airport ends up taking 30 minutes or more. And if you fly once or twice a year it's not really a big issue, but if you have to do this once or twice a month, then it is a considerable nuisance.
I know, not being able to check-in online is a "first world problem", but it's infuriating to see that Permanent Residents are treated worse than tourists: I also have a NEXUS Card, for which I went through background checks and interviews in two countries, and I still have to queue up at the airport, physically talk to an agent who needs to manually enter the PR card number in the system.
And the most infuriating part of this whole mess is that no one seems to care: CIC certainly doesn't care if we can check in online or not, airlines should care, but they don't, since they still give you an option to be checked in for a flight, and it doesn't really matter to them if that implies spending unnecessary hours in a queue at the airport.
I have been trying to pinpoint someone to complain to that would be inclined to listen, but I couldn't think of anyone. Does anyone have any idea?
