And I'm not sure I would have the patience either. The bad bit about this is that he may have to retell all of this many times over until he gets sufficiently geriatric that he is deemed to be past his sell-by date, in terms of whatever stereotype is being deployed against him. As a practical suggestion, he would do well to note down (a) whatever he told the CBP so that it stays consistent and (b) continue to be clear in explaining his past and future travel plans in the Middle East. A quick re-read before travel westwards would then be in order.
