My problem with this whole play is this:
Parents can elect if their children are capable of traveling as adults. But if they so elect, they can not play the "she was just a child" card. If the kid can not handle a simple overnight IROP, they should not be traveling alone. There would no hotel room at all if the bus had broken down (as an example).
Once you take that out of play all you have is the airline only providing a shared room under IROPS. Kind of a minor complaint.
If the bus had broken down the child would not have been placed in a hotel room with strangers.
