We often rent cars and I am the usually the driver. If I turn the car over to Mrs. michaelr (let's assume, I am in the car with her), and she gets into an accident. The rental contract has been clearly violated, however, she should still be protected by her own car insurance, no?
It's quite possible that her own insurance would not cover her because she would have been driving the car without the owners permission.
