Check with Travelocity or another web site that lets you compare the total price (including taxes) for the various rental companies side-by-side. You will probably get the lowest rate choosing someone other than Hertz.

If you don't want to go with another company, check with the Hertz web site every couple of days and make a new reservation whenever the rate changes. I had a Hertz rental in PHX in January and the price dropped by 1/3 over a couple months - if I hadn't monitored it regularly, I would have been stuck with my original rate.

I have had some Hertz locations match a competitor's rate when I've shown up with a confirmed reservation for another company.
