The issue is the displaced , waitlisted premium award passenger have not always been properly placed ( or even listed) on the gate upgrade standby list -- that is a key element of this thread. So the question related to what to do if not properly placed on the gate upgrade standby list.
Yep, I don't plan on charming the agent at all, just planning for the worst in the event we aren't on the list somehow. We had our luggage lost on the way down for 24 hours, and I'll be more than happy with 2/3 legs in first class either way.
