I would not really chose by ground experience. But as the OP was asking on the difference in flight and differences in ground experience, the biggest difference in flying F on JAL NRT-LAX vs LAX-NRT is probably in the ground experience.
Most first time or irregular F flyers would probably appreciate the fully serviced dining experience in the QF lounge rather than the buffet style of the JAL lounge. More of "That F feeling" :-)
