The Qantas first class lounge in LAX is far far better than the NRT lounge. The catering from Narita is better, but the difference is not huge. If you value the ground experience, I would go for LAX to NRT. Going in that direction, if you are staying in Japan, you get acces to a first class immigration line.
In what way? The a la carte menu? Depending on the time of the year, you may only have options for breakfast. Also IMHO lounge food is only for those who can't get a decent meal onboard, e.g. when you are flying CX. I would rather have the better meal onboard.
If you want a better ground experience, go redeem HKG-LAX for the cabana and the day suite. But then you will suffer onboard with their catering and service.
