Others have pointed to the fact that the OP put his question in the context of an economy award on AA.
Now for first class to Asia, 80,000 Chase points will give you a first class ticket on KE to Asia. I also used less than 75k points for first to Asia on SQ. Now it takes between 92 k and 120k.
So even in that context, credit card points might be better than AA miles earned through credit card, especially since on dining and hotels, you get 3 Chase points per $ vs 1 AA mile. Even on AA tickets, you'll get 3 points vs 2 miles.
