The first review : Yay to me! ;)

Introduction Here we go - My 1st hotel review, so please be kind I stayed at the hotel from 8/29 to 9/3 (29 Aug to 3 Sep)I'd have posted a simple, pic-less review sooner but I wanted to do a pretty detailed review with pics so it took some time.As you'll notice, I didn't post pics individually as I think it takes some time to load if you are on your tablet/iPad in a hotel somewhere (which is where I am usually when I am on FT)So for al my reviews, I'll post pics in collages if that is OK with everyone. Also, there'd be too many pics in the review if I did post all of them.I wrote about what was important to me e.g. size of the room, the room itself & service in general. I'm not particular about housekeeping or dining in general, as I don't usually have lunch or dinner in hotels so I can't really comment on that aspect (besides breakfast & sometimes, happy hour). Please comment below if you'd like to know other aspects of the hotel, and I'll reply.I have another short stay next week there before heading home. Check In The lobby looked really grand & welcoming. Check in for Platinum guests was at the lounge, so I was escorted up by the lobby front desk staff. Frist impression was very good. No one else was checking in at the moment so I was attended to as soon as I walked in.I had a coffee after checking in, and took the opportunity to explore the lounge. Here are some pictures of the entrance & lobby. Note: I didn't take a photo of the front desk as there were staff & guests around so I thought it would be rude. Room Upgraded from a Luxury room to a Jnr. Suite. The suite is beautifully appointed & looks warm & cozy. The size of the room is perfect, and the bathtub in the large bathroom was a nice touch (though I didn't soak in it).Everything looks & feels brand new (yes, I know it is). For me personally, nothing is worse than old, dirty & worn out carpets. There were a bunch of kids on my floor, who were trekking in & out of their rooms like it was their playground. It only bothered me when I walked past the elevators and my room was on the far end but if their rooms were next to mine ... Anyway the staff were aware of this & they did inform their parents so it was fine.Check out the pics of the room below. Service A mix of good & bad. The lounge staff are great, mainly because they came to the Sofitel from other internatonal hotels in the city so they have some, if not lots of experience. However, as I mentioned in another post, the front desk staff at the lobby seemed a little less well trained.I mentioned to the FD staff that I did not receive my welcome drink vouchers when I checked in at the lounge, so I just thought I'd let them know so that they can make the experience for their guests more complete. It took 3 different persons 3 days before I was finally told that the hotel does not have the physical welcome vouchers but I am more than welcome to have a drink at the lobby bar anytime.I'd just have to inform the FD or the bartender that I'd be using my welcome drink benefit. They could have just said so on the 1st day that I asked, I thought.I would not think anything of it as the hotel was still pretty new.I'm not sure if housekeeping came by to check on my room as I did not receive a note during my stay of 5 nights. I had my DND sign on the entire time but usually, they'd check via a phone call to the room or just drop a card saying that they came by.Of course, it was my choice to have the DND sign on during my stay (I have a thing about housekeeping coming into my room to "re-arrange" my stuff when they tidy up the room - does anyone else feel this way or am I the lone weirdo?) On the 3rd day, I had to take my trash out and pass it to a bewildered housekeeping staff who was walking by. I did entertain the thought of just leaving it outside my room but I thought that looked messy, and I remember I did not like it when I walked through a hallway of trash when I'm in some/most US hotels.Pizza boxes, Chinese takeaway, room service trays & what not's .. The other option was to dump it in the trash bin next to the elevatorsI also asked for some extra coffee capsules and toiletries, to be left outside my room. Both times, the items were placed on the floor although quite neatly. I had thought they'd use the slots/pigeon hole by the door and place them there in a paper or plastic or some sort of reusable bag. Dining Breakfast is served from 6.30am to 10.30am (ends at 11am on weekends & holidays) & it was awesome, with a wide variety of choices at the main restaurant (Kwee Zeen). It's the typical Sofitel breakfast buffet, very similar to the one in Manila & Bangkok, and there's always cheese at Sofitel Of course in Malaysia, no buffet is complete without nasi lemak! The restaurant got really busy during breakfast over the weekend as it was a holiday in the region (Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia) and due to lots of last minute bookings, the restaurant wasn't able to cope with the influx of people especially during the 9.30am to 10.30am peak breakfast period (it was a long weekend/holiday).The lounge was able to manage better during happy hour (6pm to 8pm) because they had extra help from the staff at front desk. But it was crowded still, and it seemed to be amplified because kids of all ages were allowed in the lounge during happy hour. This is an issue the hotel GM has to address, & if he thinks it is fine then so be it.Check out the pics of the restaurant & the lounge below. Location Very convenient to KL Sentral via the MRT (Pusat Bandar Damansara), it's only a few hundred metres from the hotel via a shortcut and it's a covered footpath part of the way nearing the MRT station.I would not suggest taking the MRT if you were coming from/going to the airport unless you are traveling light & are familiar with the area. The hotel itself is in DC Mall (Damansara City) and the surrounding area is partly residential, commercial & the highway is nearby.Bangsar Shopping Center is walk-able if you fancy some dining/bar options as well as an excellent supermarket & bakery. There are several pharmacies & wellness/beauty outlets (such as skincare & spas) in the center as well.A little farther & only accessible by car is the nightlife hotspot of Jalan Telawi/Jalan Ara also know as the other "Bangsar" vs. BSC which is on the opposite/far end of Jalan Ma'arof.AND still a little farther, is the Mid Valley MegaMall/The Gardens. As the name suggests, it's MEGA big Facilities Here are some pics of the swimming pool (gorgeous), fitness center (well & fully equipped), business center/meeting room reception and the lounge. Another FT'er has posted more pics of the lounge so I won't repeat them too much here. Overall One word - awesome! The location isn't going to work for everyone especially if you are visiting KL as a tourist or for business (though respectively, Bangsar & Damansara is kinda both things)And the location isn't as good as the Sofitel Bangkok but if Sofitel Manila can make it work, I'm sure Sofitel KL Damansara can too!And if it doesn't, then all the better for me in terms of upgrades (oops, did I just say that out loud) :PIt truly is a hotel to experience for yourself. As much as I'd like to keep this place to myself so the restaurant & lounge wouldn't get as crowded as it did last weekend due to the super long weekend/SEA Games/Eid al-Adha holiday.I also want the hotel to do well because I can see that they are trying very hard.I hope the pics do it justice, & apologies for rambling on in some sections .. LOLFinally, thanks for reading. I hope my tiny contribution makes the FT community a more insightful & better place for all travelers!
