I've not stayed at the Silo (which would be a bit weird since I can see it from my house!) but there is absolutely nothing about the pictures of the rooms that appeals to me. It seems to be a dreadful hodge-podge of stuff thrown together without any thought.
I have eaten there and I feel the same about the decor in the public areas. A friend describes it as "style collage" - many styles superimposed on each other in claustrophobic proximity. There are many individual pieces that are beautiful or quirky or at least interesting - but the overall effect is garish and not at all classy IMHO.
I have enjoyed the F&B I have had there (though my experiences were not without service issues). The bar is very popular, so go early to get a seat and enjoy the views. The restaurant served a very credible dinner that I would rate amongst the best I've had in Cape Town. But perhaps the most enjoyable venue is the rooftop around the pool. They serve simple fare of very good quality and the views are absolutely superb. It overlooks the working part of the harbour, so feels very different to the V&A Waterfront. And of course it is high up and one feels quite removed from the bustle of the city. Wonderful for a relaxed lunch. Just make sure the weather is good though - low temperatures or any wind would destroy the experience.
As for the room prices!! Not to mention the cancellation policy: full charge if cancelled less than 4 weeks before arrival date! That alone would make me never book the place. I cannot for the life of me see what makes the hotel worth those prices and able to impose those terms.
