These cards have an annual fee that is waived in the first year but of course next year I would have to start paying the fee. As the poster above said the SPG points will stay in your SPG account regardless of whether or not the credit card is closed.
There is a way to keep UR active without paying the annual fee on a card. You downgrade your CSP/CSR to chase freedom or freedom unlimited. You will keep your points. Then when you want to be able to xfer points to partners have your spouse open a CSP/CSR (with you as a AU) and transfer your points from the freedom card to her CSP/CSR and transfer to partners.
