As someone who is a QF Plat and will be a BA Gold this year, I really don't think it's that simple.
From my observations, there are many situations where QF long-haul redemptions are cheaper than BA.
One of my favourite picks is HKG-FCO on CX in J, where QF charges 78,000 points and BA charges somewhat more. Taxes and fees are similar (well, its HKG). Also, have a look at SIN-CMB, for example, where the BA fees are astronomical. And, you can also use QF points for redemptions on EK.
So it's a 2-way street, really. Horses for your course. I think.
