There is no charge to use Fort Lauderdale Beach. You can bring your own chairs and umbrellas for free. If you don't have a chair, you can rent one from the vendor. I've never heard of/seen them renting towels, but I guess that's possible.
Thanks for the clarification & apologies for misinformation on that. Trying to remember exactly how/where I heard it, could well have been hotel "justifying" the resort fee.
