Cedar City is appr. 30-40 min from St. George where another, more expensive HI is located. Cedar breaks national monument is less than an hour away and Bryce and Zion NPs are not far as well. Interestingly Cedar Breaks has the highest elevation road I've driven on in the continental US (10400+ ft).
Overall a good place to stop on the way to Utah parks.
Cedar City is also the home of the Tony Award winning Utah Shakesperean Festival.
