I have been flying QR a lot more lately since the launch of the Dublin flight. Mainly J but with quite a few legs in Y as well. My impressions as a OWE in Y:
- Very good recognition of my OWE status in most flights
- One upgrade in a DEL to DOH due to change of equipment . There were circa 20 people upgraded but still a very nice gesture.
- Seat selection. I cannot select bulkhead or exit row seats on line. I always have to do it at the airport. My problem is on the returns through Doha to Dublin. ex-Australia passengers seem to be allocated the best seats at check in by the check in agents. This require attention as status passengers should always be prioratised.
- Some of the outstations (DUBLIN!!!) check in agents are lazy and they will just tell you that there are no exits row seats. This is not true most of the times so check expert flyer to ensure where you stand. The agents just don't want to call the supervisor to get the seats unblocked. Be assertive at check in to get the seats you want.
- Mile for the flights are posting fast in my Advantage accounts except for a DUB-DOH-CMB which has not posted since about 2 months ago and I am struggling with AAdvantage outrageously poor customer service to get this sorted. Side note, American Airlines and Aadvantage customer service is horrific and has disproved so much since the merger.
- Meals are Ok but portions are quite small.
- I appreciate the gesture of a second meal/snack but the pastry and cake served are terrible. It worth skipping it.
- Cabin crew are generally proactive with drinks runs
- Cabin crews in the ex- Dublin leg are consistently poor. Not sure if this a coincidence.
- Asian CCs are so much nicer than Eastern European.
- Bathrooms are kept clean
- First class lounge in Doha is poor and crowded at peak times. They allow overflow of Business class lounge to access the lounge which makes matters worse.
- Not sure what is the access policy at the First class lounge but I am surprised to see large families where clearly not half of the members are OWE (which could mean they guess they could guess the other half)
- I sat in the Bkk Thai First class mini-lounge on my own twice. It is a weird experience.
- It is true. The 787 Y seats are tight! Same issue with BA 787 seats
All in all, I am quite happy with QR in Y as a OWE. I Just wish seat selection for OWE could be substantially improved. This can be a deal breaker in the case of a long and full flight specially on the 787. Lounges are bad but not a deal breaker for me.
