Upgrades with companion policy question

Hi,

I have a question about Delta's policy for upgrades with a companion. I am a GM member and my wife has no status. We are booked on the same reservation for a LGA-YUL flight in October, where upgrades can be requester for both Confort+ and First class.

During the booking process on Delta.com, there's a popup that says:
"As a Medallion® SkyMiles member, you can request an upgrade for yourself and a traveling companion provided you fly together on the same flights.
(...)
Upgrade requests for both passengers will be processed based on the upgrade time window of the passenger with a lower SkyMiles membership level.
Upgrades will be confirmed for both you and your traveling companion using the automated upgrade process opens in a new window based on seat availability, time before departure, fare class purchased, and the lower SkyMiles membership level in the reservation."

But then, on the page "UNLIMITED COMPLIMENTARY MEDALLION® UPGRADES" here, it says:
"TRAVELING WITH ONE COMPANION:
If you and one companion are in the same reservation: your upgrades will clear based on the status of the higher-tiered Member, if available. This applies to companions who are Medallion Members themselves as well as General Members who do not have Medallion Status and partner airline elite members. For example, if a Diamond Medallion Member and General Member are traveling together, both upgrades will clear at the Diamond window, if available."

It just makes no sense to me, as it totally contradicts the other bit. Does anyone can explain me what the policy is exactly?

Thank you!
