If you have a legal connection at LCY, I can't immediately see why BA would push you into changing the DUB-LCY sector. My suspicion would focus more on whether there aren't any seats to pick from. Have you had a look at EF to see what the seat map looks like now?
At a guess, your LCY-DUB flight may well be lurking in another Amadeus PNR because of the break (so far as BA is concerned) between LCY-JFK and LCY-DUB. So it would be the usual story of having to find that second Amadeus PNR.
