I stayed here for a night with my family in August, and was very happy with my stay. After stays at the ITC Maurya in Delhi and Rajputana in Jaipur, I was pleasantly surprised that the Grand Central felt more like a boutique hotel. We were greeted by staffer immediately upon exiting the taxi, and she guessed at who I was (this was my first stay here, so I don't know if they didn't have many check-ins at that time, or if it was because I was traveling with family and most people staying there didn't have kids with them). The front desk staffers were very friendly, and several came by to greet me by name. We had two interconnecting Tower Rooms-- these were nearly identical to those at the ITC Maurya, and were quite comfortable, and well lit. Each room was well supplied with water, as well as a small fruit basket and box of chocolate. In the morning, we had breakfast in the restaurant. The selection of cold items was similar to that in the Maurya, but the hot item bar seemed to be more extensive. Everything that I tried was of good quality, and the restaurant staff was reasonably attentive. My recollection from a previous trip is that the ITC at the airport had a much larger selection, but that may have changed by now.
The only issue I had with the property was when leaving the hotel and heading to the airport, the staff told us we couldn't fit in one taxi with our suitcases, and that they could not get us a large (van style) taxi because they "were not allowed in this part of Mumbai." They tried to sell me on using the hotel's innova, at a cost of over 4000inr. I eventually took two regular taxis (total fare of 840 inr), though as we left the hotel, my taxi driver told me that I was wasting money as we all could have easily fit into one taxi. One block from the hotel, I also passed a long line of van taxis, making me wonder why the hotel staff couldn't call one, or why they didn't tell me that I could walk a block and grab one there. Other than that, I was pretty happy with the property, and will consider it again when next in town.
