I just accessed TIMATIC through the Emirates website. Using AU and UK passports I get the following result when searching for destination Japan, with a transit in China (UK text below):



Note - all text regarding 72 and 144 hour TWOV is missing.

Timatic being updated? EK not pulling info from TIMATIC correctly?
If this is really correct that TWOV is no longer possible at CAN, it will have serious financial implications for CZ which is based at CAN. I wonder what the motivation for this change can be,
