As a rule, VX doesn’t oversell their flights. That said, if they know there are elites onboard they’ll calculate who will get autoupgraded to MCS into their figure for how many MC seats are for sale.

Comp upgrades to F are quite rare and usually only happen at the gate, at the agent’s discretion, if a standby passenger is trying to get on the plane, MC is full, and there are still available F seats in the last moments before boarding begins. It’s only ever happened to me once.
