There are no longer two configurations. The 154 seat version was temporary when the four middle seats were unblocked behind the exit row, but row 7 was added to all aircraft two+ years ago to bring them all to 160 seats.
The 150 seat version was to limit the FAs needed to three, but it is now four since the crew shortages have ended and AA figured out that it couldn't sell 48 MCE seats.
When it was configured that way, I would always grab a seat in those rows, since I would rather have the extra width than legroom, as I am 5'7
It was a bit like intra-European business class
Yep, you could sit there and pretend you were flying intra-Europe business class on BA.... There was a table like thing beween them, and I remember once seeing a woman put her dog there.
