CHICAGO, Aug. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines is teaming up with leading disaster relief organizations to provide aid to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Beginning today, United will provide up to three million bonus miles to MileagePlus members who donate to the organizations. The company will also match the first $100,000 raised.

"The thoughts and hearts of the entire United family are fixed firmly on everyone impacted by Hurricane Harvey," said United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz. "We will be with them every step of the way and the only equal to the severity of this storm is the seriousness of purpose that we are all taking to ensure that these devastated communities recover fully and stronger than ever."

MileagePlus members who give to the American Red Cross, AmeriCares, Airlink or Operation USA through United's fundraising page can receive up to 1,000 bonus miles by entering their MileagePlus number at the time of their donation. United will award members miles based on the size of their donation:

Donate $50-$99 – Earn 250 bonus miles
Donate $100-$249 – Earn 500 bonus miles
Donate $250 or more – Earn 1,000 bonus miles

United will award up to three million bonus miles to customers on a first-come, first-served basis based on contributions made through the airline's fundraising page through 11:59 PM CDT on September 15, 2017. United customers have raised more than $5.7million in the last 5 years for previous disaster relief campaigns.

United employs more than 11,000 people in the areas impacted by Hurricane Harvey, including at Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, one of the company's largest hubs.

One comment, as in the past, you are separately charged the card credit fees and crowdrise processing fees -- amounted to $5.80 on $100 test.

If you don't care about the miles, giving directly to the charity is more cost effective. Just add roughly 2.5% to cover the typical credit card fees.
