Anyone who has tried to fly out of OAK over the past year or so has been subjected to highly unexpected and irregular traffic delays in excess of an hour to go 2 miles (in addition to some of the longer security lines around). I am sure there have been so many people missing their flights, even those that have allowed plenty of time to get to the airport on time that the AS personnel have taken some sympathy and maybe given a bit more discretion. Once when I was sitting in just horrendous traffic (40 minutes from the freeway to the Hilton), there were people running down Hegenberger Road with their luggage, with another mile to go. I just posted on the Airports board more expected OAK traffic horrors...
