I didn't see much nightlife accessible by walking from the Sofitel. If you use Uber, it's highly accessible in KL, cheap, and very helpful for a hotel not frequented by cabs (i.e. Sofitel).
Edit: Also, the Sofitel is about 15 - 20 minutes from KLCC without traffic, or a $3-5 Uber ride. So it's not too bad, considering it's about a 10 minute walk from most hotels in KLCC to anywhere worth going to.
Anything interesting to report? I guess their 1st 2 weeks of operations must have been quite smooth? I've been told by the assistant mgr. that all facilities are ready & open to guests.
Bangsar is really nearby so no lack of bars & restaurants & the Gardens/Mid Valley Mega Mall is like 10 min. away. The Damansara area isn't really as bad as some other members think.
With regards to the travel times to KLCC / downtown area, it really depends on the time of travel. In KL, there are still distinct peak hour traffic times unlike in Manila, Jakarta or even Bangkok. If one avoids the morning and evening commute hours, it shouldn't take more than 30 mins.
But I must say 15 min may be a bit too optimistic
