Interesting, as I had thought that when a place says that they do not accept Amex, it means that they are physically incapable of doing so. I recall a restaurant a while back where the owner said that she had not taken Amex during swipe, but since she switched to chip she does now, because the payment to her merchant account is same day, rather than batching once a month.
