One other thing to consider. Alaska will credit one mile to MileagePlan for every mile flown. Will the fare class you purchased provide you with similar earnings on AA? Check AA's website to see what earnings you will get for partner flights as well as the AA flights. It may be more advantageous to credit to AS. 5k is good for a "hop" award.
