The biggest downside is I'll most likely have a checked bag which concerns me, as I don't want to go without my things for the weekend, if it shouldn't make my connection. I've been trying to debate on how to fit everything in a carry on... but it's a work in progress, and I'd have to cut down on what I bring (necessities, clothes, no books, etc).

Here's my schedule as follows:

PDX 3:30 PM - 6:07 PM PHX

PHX 6:40 PM - 10:19 PM MAF

Any suggestions on what to do?
I've taken the MAF flight a number of times...a normal size carry on won't fit and will have to be valet checked at the gate. Which means you have to wait at the gate for them to bring it up. I would check it through as I think you would have a better chance of it making the connection. You making the connection is probably not an issue...the bag though...
