The only reason for asking is that I've read GE doesn't guarantee precheck, only makes you eligible for it. But I've read people generally get it.

Not sure if that last part is any different if you buy TSA Pre instead of GE. I imagine it's the same...

Pre-check is never guaranteed. For every trip, your data is submitted to TSA (at check in, IIRC), and you either get it (most of the time), or not. Doesn't matter if you have pre-check only, or GE/Nexus.

As a Nexus member, I can't remember the last time I didn't get pre-check (actually, I think it was a year and a half ago when I was flying SQ, before they were part of the program...but I mean when I was flying a participating carrier).
