Nice story.
Ours is very similar but involved a Sydney-Mid West long distance relationship aided and abetted by many, many UA flights for both of us over many years until permanent residency for my partner was granted.
17 years on and living in Australia we both still fly UA back to the USA to visit 'the rellos' on a regular basis.
The airline is part of us too.

Its amazing when you sit down and reflect upon some of life's most important moments. What seems to get overlooked sometimes is the journey. I know on mine I have grown a lot and have taken to the cultural differences and some of the things that aren't so different.
