Wow! If I wasn't going through this myself I would have never believed what you wrote. Let this be a lesson to everyone that AMEX can and will cancel your account and revoke your points for any reason, even if it is something completely out of your control and even if it's potentially something they caused themselves. It's just so upsetting to me that I was loyal to AMEX for such a huge chunk of my life and now they refuse to address whatever the root cause of this cancellation was. I never in a million years would have dreamed something like this could happen but here it is. It happened to me and I still don't even know why or what happened to start this chain of events.
I am now with Citibank AA Executive Card and am very happy with it. I strongly encourage everyone out there to look at Citibank, Chase Sapphire, and the other similar cards out there. They offer similar if not better benefits than AMEX Platinum for in some cases a lower annual fee. I'm also finding my MasterCard is accepted in more places than AMEX especially when I was overseas recently. I also encourage everyone to cash in their Membership Rewards points and not accumulate them too much.
All I ask is that someone from AMEX speak to me and review the entire chain of events beginning with who and how someone other than myself added other forms of payment to my account. There is a complete lack of customer service from AMEX which is disheartening.
