My Malaga experience was very much like your Faro experience. Get to airport 2.5 hours before flight departure (as friends were on an earlier flight with a different airline). No signs of life at BA check-in. Eventually staff appear 1 hour 50 mins before departure (HUGE queues at check-in by now) and they refuse to start checking people in until 1.5 hours before departure. Appalling miserable service. Worst BA check-in service I've ever had actually.
