You don't need a separate ticket - just to add the infant in arms to the reservation if you haven't already and pay any necessary surcharge (only required on int'l flights, I believe?).

I would go 1B/C all the way. Mrs. cbc812 and I have taken our now 8 month old on several flights in those seats. If your little one fusses, you will disturb much less of the cabin and you have quick access to the galley/lav area to walk/bounce them to settle down.

Be sure to bring a changing pad or something similarly long and cushion-y. The console between seats is great space for the little one to catch some Zs.
