Infant in arms is allowed in D1. Child seats are not. D1 is hugely beneficial with an infant in arms - the odds of them actually sleeping are much higher. Don't worry about what others think - the airlines set the rules, not them.
Child seats ARE allowed on these seats. The issue is the airbag seatbelt, which is disabled by plugging in a universal seat extender (the ones they have on board for customers of size).
Anyway, 1B/C all the way. On the 763, these seats are slightly forward of 1A and 1D, so you're out of their line of sight. You're also closer to the galley and lavs. Have a nice trip, good luck, and don't let anyone shame you for taking your child in D1.
