the new AS 737 F cabin is a lot more roomy than on UA/DL/AA 737s of the same size; I know as Ive flown all 3 extensively.
Point is not the type of aircraft, it is whether it is viable to sell domestic F seats on routes with lieflat competition.
Many carriers sell the equivalent of domestic F seats on international routes on the same aircraft as lieflat seats. Conclusion: there is a market for both types of seats at different price points on this type of route.
AA is now going to sell domestic F seats on central->Hawaii routes on the same aircraft as lieflat seats. Conclusion: there is a market for both types of seats at different price points on this type of route.
AS will soon sell domestic F seats in direct competition with lieflat seats on transcon routes with ~2h less flying time than the AA central->Hawaii flights. There has been debate on this thread as to whether or not this will be a viable strategy.
