Not sure if this is common, but I have a reservation in Y on a JL operated flight, but booked through AA as an AA codeshare. Even though I am well within the 72, but before 48 hours to allow for seat selection on Jal.com, when I enter in all my info, including my JL record number, all I see are my AA segments, let alone being able select seats on the upcoming JL flight.

Furthermore looking at Expert Flyer the whole row of 16 shows unassigned (on a 767 from HND to SIN), but when I called my AA EXP Desk, they were not able to assign those seats to me, so now my wife and I are seated in different rows.

All of this seams a bit weird to me. Is this normal practice from JL, especially for a OWE?
